Poppy is a wonderful textbook! Poppy is a sweet little mouse that will have you loving her from the start! It has unexpected twists and leaves you at the edge of your seat. In class, we had to read this textbook together. But when someone else was reading out loud I would always read ahead and then read too much and get lost! The characters are really brought to life with Avi's terrific descriptions. Sometimes you are left wondering why this or that happened. If you love fiction and animals, you'll adore Poppy!

Summary

As ruler of Dimwood Forest, Ocax the hoot owl has promised to protect the mice occupying an abandoned farmhouse as long as they ask permission before moving about.

Poppy, a timid dormouse, is a loyal, obedient subject--until she sees Ocax devour her fiancé.

To prove that the intimidating ruler is a phony, Poppy embarks on a dangerous and eye-opening quest, which ends with her one-on-one battle with Ocax. Winner of the Horn Book Award.
