Author Biography
Bharati Ray is Honorary Professor, Department of History, Calcutta University. She is the author of Early Feminists in Colonial Bengal: Sarala Devi Chandhurani and Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain (OUP, 2002); From Independence Towards Freedom: Indian Women Since 1947 (OUP, 1999) and From the Seams of History: Essays on Indian Women (OUP, 1995).
Malavika Karlekar is Editor, Indian Journal of Gender Studies and the Curator of Re-Presenting Indian Women 1875-1947: A Visual Documentary. Her Recent publications include Remembered Childhood: Essays in Honour of Andre Beteille co-edited with Rudrangshu Muherjee (OUP, 2010); In So Many Words: Women's Life Experiences from Western and Eastern India co-edited with Aparna Basu (Routledge, 2008) and Re-Visioning the Past: Early Photography in Bengal 1875-1915 (OUP, 2005).
