Summary

The third EFIS workshop aims to continue the efforts of the two previous workshops by concentrating on some of the key issues identified in both meetings. Issues such as the lack of federated case tools, constructing non-database federations, and the impact of semi-structured data sources have been emerging recently for federated IS researchers. This year's workshop contains nine research papers covering topics such as federated architectures, security in federated warehouses, multimedia federations, and semantic integration issues. The invited academic contribution provides an in-depth review of object-oriented view mechanisms and, in particular, those issues which are most appropriate to federated system researchers. In addition to previous workshops we also include an industry session with presentations from four European-based industrial researchers, and an invited contribution from Iona Technologies.
