Summary

Exploring the lifestyle of a lesser-known indigenous tribe, this photographic journey captures the daily lives of the Wayuu fishermen who live in northwestern Venezuela and northeastern Colombia on the Guajira Peninsula and are known as the Apalaanchi--"people of the beach." Showing a group of people struggling to survive, the stunning images in this collection illustrate the culture of the Wayuu fishermen, detailing their traditions, views on mysticism, and their relationship with the sea that gives them a livelihood. From the innocent smiles of young children and the peacefulness and wisdom of the Wayuu elders to the hardworking fishermen themselves, this compilation offers a unique view of an indigenous people.
